Ian has been tempting me for a good couple of months with the prospect of property purchase in Montenegro. He himself, along with his Partner, Margot have purchased 2 Properties – Dobrota and Perast, over the past 2 years. More recently Margot’s Mother has become their upstairs “neighbor” in their gorgeous gem of a place in Dobrota, Kotor.
The serenity, beauty and the more open minded approach of the locals, to Foreign investors, was a big draw card. These factors, coupled with a business trip to Milan, saw us recently heading over to the gorgeous Montenegro for a very whirlwind look/see at what was on offer in all the areas of Montenegro!
Ian kindly put us in touch with the very capable (and very lovely) Anja – based locally in the Old Town of Kotor, and highly knowledgeable, along with energy which I haven’t seen many people exude, made for a great “Property Tour Guide”. Prior to our departure we were in constant email contact with Anja, sending her properties of interest, along with her sending back what was available, what was a good area to look in, and many more local points to ponder before purchasing – loads of food for thought. Communication with us South Africans not an issue at all – easily understanding all our questions and availing herself to all and any silly (but pertinent) questions as first time potential purchasers in what was to us a totally unknown destination.
We landed and were met by Anja at our accommodation, from which we started (immediately) ticking off our list/s as we went – we viewed up to 25 properties – apartments, new listings she had noted not on the list, houses, you name it, we viewed it! Her honesty, her ability to glee our tastes and preferences were evident from day one – this then enabled her to narrow down/fine-tune the list further to avoid wasting precious time on properties which were not what we were after.
We ended up departing Montenegro as proud owners (sale still to be fully finalised at this stage) of a beautiful traditional (yet fully renovated) Home in Herceg Novi – as Anja described it – a piece of heaven and a bargain (fully trusting her knowledge for the area, as well as viewing so much, we ourselves could clearly see the value in our choice, and her affirmation only further assisted our swift decision).
To Ian, for the introduction and the knowledge imparted on Montenegro, for his introduction to Anja, along with her trusted side-kicks for legalities after one’s purchase (and I say this – as I don’t think many a person will be departing Montenegro without some form of investment, should they head over – the current market value of all properties can only increase, as one can clearly see the growth, the tourism (cruise ships daily), the quick sales of properties and the “way of life” for those seeking solace, or holiday, or a safe-haven for future use) – WE THANK YOU.
